The Ultimate Guide to Modern Play Kitchens

A play kitchen has definitely been our best toy investment. We bought one last Christmas for Mae, just after she turned three. I knew she was gonna love it, but I underestimated how much Winnie would love it too! Once she hit ten months old, she’d spend time every day opening and closing the cupboards, and pulling out all the play food. Of course the imaginative play comes later, and Mae’s always cooking us up dinner. It’s already been so well-loved in the short time we’ve had it.

With the holidays sneaking up on us, I thought it’d be helpful to compile some of the best play kitchens. If you have one on your holiday shopping list, there’s a few things to consider when deciding which one to buy. Since it’ll be taking up a chunk of space in your house for at least a few years, be sure to choose one that both you and your little one will be happy with. Consider the size and even the style of the space. Our play kitchen is mostly in our dining room so I wanted one that was pretty understated since I see it all day every day. Also think about how many kids will be playing with the kitchen. If you have more than one child, it may be worth buying a larger kitchen that will accommodate multiple children.

A little warning for you guys, most play kitchens need to be assembled. This is no small feat for many designs. If you’re giving one for a Christmas or birthday gift, it’s best not to wait until last minute to assemble it. And to have lots of wine on hand.

Retail prices for the kitchens are listed below, but you can find almost all of these on sale. Of course I’ll be keeping an eye out on all the deals.

  1. Thanks for sharing about all of the different play kitchens available. I prefer the wooden kitchens like #19 because they seem much more durable. My kitchen has a lot of natural wood elements, so getting a play kitchen made of natural wood would look great and combine well. It’s also nice when they come with play food.
