Self-care is essential for moms, but we all know how challenging it can be to put time aside to care for and focus on ourselves. The payoff is worth it though, and not just for your own well-being, but because it will give you more energy and patience when caring for your children and dealing with all of life’s responsibilities.
The great thing about self-care is it doesn’t necessarily require a trip to the spa or a day out lunching with friends (although we can get behind that!). Self-care can even mean doing simple things that make you happy every day or taking a few minutes at home to pamper yourself and recharge.
To give you some ideas of where to start on self-care at home, we asked ten working mamas in and around Seattle to share their favorite budget-friendly self-care item. Bonus that they’re all available on Amazon because we’re all about making self-care accessible and easy!
1 | ACURE BRIGHTENING FACIAL SCRUB ($9.99)
I love this granular face scrub and it’s always under $10! I swear by Drunk Elephant skincare but for a physical exfoliant (which isn’t offered by their line), I swear by this formula! Every time I use it I feel so refreshed.
With client meetings, photo shoots or weddings that require me to wear a dress or skirt, having a little color (especially on my legs) without having to leave the house for a spray tan makes me feel much more confident and put together. Living in the PNW and having small kids, there is not much opportunity for sun, so these towelettes do their magic overnight and I wake up with the perfect amount of color. A bonus is that the small packets are great to travel with as well!
3 | HYDRO FLASK STAINLESS STEEL WATER BOTTLE ($38.99)
The 40oz Hydro Flask with the Straw Lid is the ultimate self-care essential, ensuring you drink more water throughout the day, with fewer refills! Like it ice cold? Perfect – it stays chilled for 24 hours with zero condensation. Made of stainless steel and BPA-free plastics, you can choose from 8 colors to fit your vibe (Flamingo is a fave).
4 | AIVILO ROSE QUARTZ ROLLER ($19.99)
This Jade Roller feels so amazing on your face. I use it to decrease puffiness and tone my skin. I keep it in my makeup bag and also in the fridge. I roll my face before applying makeup to minimize my pores and reduce my fine lines. It is also great to drain you lymphatic notes and improve blood circulation.

5 | NEXCARE ACNE COVER ($5.32)
These things are amazing! They would have changed my skincare life if I would have known about them in my teen years. They help heal blemishes faster and soothe irritated skin overnight. They’re sheer and flat, I even wear them during the day if I need to. I have them on subscribe and save and tell everyone about them!
6 | STOP TOP POPCORN POPPER ($34.95)
I love popcorn! We got one of these for a wedding gift 20 years ago, and I had to finally order a new one since I use mine weekly. I buy them for gifts and I always recommend them, particularly this specific brand. I grew up making popcorn on the stove top using peanut oil in a regular pan. This makes it much easier as it is a designated popcorn maker and you don’t even have to clean it. Just pop and put back in the cupboard!

7 | PIGGY PAINT NON-TOXIC NAIL POLISH ($10)
I love having my nails done when I’m pregnant but I don’t need the fumes or chemicals. This is a great, non-toxic polish (intended for kids!) that works for adults too. I use the basecoat/sealer and topcoat as well, and have been surprised at how durable the formula is.
8 | AQUAPHOR LIP REPAIR ($3.99)
I get asked almost every day what lip gloss I’m wearing and this is my answer. It’s also a must for me this time of year so I stock up on multiples to keep in my tote, around the house, and in the car!
9 | DR TEAL’S COCONUT OIL PURE EPSOM SALT ($16.95)
I’m the personality type that needs my quiet and alone time in order to re-boot, which is easier said than done as a busy mom of two little ones. I find a warm bath is always a great go-to, especially with these Dr. Teals Epsom Salts. Epsom salts are undoubtedly great for sore muscles and stress, and I was thrilled when this brand came out with a coconut version. I LOVE anything coconut! Our sense of smell is so powerful in what it can do for our mood and emotions, let alone our memories. For me, it’s impossible not to think of Hawaii with these salts. And, thinking of Hawaii always makes me smile and helps relieve some serious tension.

10 | bkr GLASS WATER BOTTLE ($38)
I love this glass water bottle! It’s super durable and cute for the gym with the soft silicone sleeve. I can mix essential oils into my water and have it on hand all day since it fits in my car’s cup holder.
11 | MATCHA GREEN TEA SCRUB ($15.95)
I love beginning my day with this scrub! It leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated, especially during the winter when it’s extra dry. And the peppermint essential oil is so refreshing first thing in the morning. No matter how crazy the day ahead promises to be (hello, 4 kids!), it feels good to start with a small amount of pampering, and this stuff does the trick!
12 | WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING BY DELIA OWENS ($15.60)
Time to read a book is the ultimate self-care for me. ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ is my most recent read. It took me a little while to get into but once I did, I was hooked. Some tears might even have been shed at the end. Best way to spend my mama downtime.
